General Purposes of the Different Support Components

The purpose of the Telecommunication Support is to enable the experts/team to establish basic communications (Voice, Fax, Data) via phones, mobile phones, radios, satellite communication or internet access and to operate simultaneously in different locations. This team is also capable to set up telecommunication systems for a Reception/ Departure Centre, or an OSOCC (high‐speed internet access, wireless LAN, laser printer and 10 workstations...)

The purpose of the Office Support is to facilitate the work of the experts/team by assisting them in their administrative work in an On Site Operations Coordination Centre (OSOCC). This component provides a tented office and the necessary equipment for set up of an OSOCC in close cooperation with the subsistence and telecommunication support component. Besides that the team members are trained in supporting experts in their staff work in an OSOCC.

The purpose of the Subsistence Support is to supplement an OSOCC with tents, equipment and food for up to 10 experts, the own TAST members and a reserve of 2 persons. With this component basic accommodation and office facilities including equipment for sleeping, preparing food and handling basic hygiene for a period up to 4 weeks is provided.

The purpose of the Transport Support is providing 4x4 vehicles (normally hired on‐site) with radio equipment with drivers to the experts/teams on‐site as well as some mechanical support.

In addition to these four tasks two further issues are to be implemented – Medical support and Safety &Security support:

  • The purpose of the Medical Support is providing medical treatment and/or medication (according to German Law) to TAST and the experts/assessment/coordination team. If necessary, assistance for Medical Evacuation can be given.
  • The purpose of the Safety and Security Support is personal safety and security equipment for TAST and the experts/assessment/coordination team for evacuation, as well as to facilitate security planning.
